Shanti Jayasinha's Brazil Cello Trio

Shanti Jayasinha’s Brazilian Cello Trio brings together the authentic sounds of Bossa Nova, Samba, Baião and Chorinho music with an instrument not often not often associated with latin groups. But whilst the cello may be an unusual choice, its unique range – similar to that of the human voice – makes it a compelling addition to this highly distinctive sound world. Drawing inspiration from the great Brazilian cellist Jaques Morelenbaum, this trio plays the music of Tom Jobim, Egberto Gismonti, Dorival Caymmi with a little Bach thrown in. The trio – born through Shanti’s long-time fascination with this style – is completed by two London-based masters of Brazilian music: drummer Marius Rodrigues (winner of the Batuka! Masters national drum competition) and in-demand guitarist Guillermo Hill.
